Bilateral Colombo - Costa Rican

In the period 2005-2007, the balance of trade between Colombia and Costa Rica presented a similar increased from U.S. $ 194.3 million in 2005 to

$ 244 , 7 million last year. In 2007 there was an increase in the balance over 2006, due to the recovery of traditional exports.

2.2.1. Colombian exports to Costa Rica

Colombian exports to Costa Rica in the period 2005 - 2007 presented variable behavior from U.S. $ 219.4 million in 2005 to U.S. $ 283.1 million in 2007, registering an average annual growth of 13.8% during the period. In the past year, there was a significant recovery of 16.89%.

Colombian exports to Costa Rica are concentrated in a 90.89% of non-traditional products and the remaining 9.11% are traditional products. During the period from 2005 to 2007, traditional exports showed an increase equivalent to 12.86% per year, from $ 20.2 million to $ 25.8 million in 2007. In the last year there was a recovery 9.05% over 2006.

The non-traditional exports grew at an average annual 13.88% in the three years of study, from U.S. $ 199.3 million in 2005 to U.S. $ 257.3 million in 2007, while last year saw a ; above-average increase of 17.74%.

The main products Traditional exported by Colombia to Costa Rica in 2007 were: polypropylene with a share of 7.49% of total exports, followed by flat-rolled products of iron or steel with 5.80% and all other fungicides with 5.56%; boxes of paper or corrugated cardboard with 5.16%, and other cables, plaits and similar products with 2.94% aluminum, among others. The top 10 export products account for 36.18% of the total.

2.2.2. Colombian imports from Costa Rica

During the period 2005 - 2007 Colombian imports from Costa Rica showed an increasing trend over the period, registering an average annual growth of 21.84%. In the last year, was presented a significant growth of 7.71% compared to 2006.
